The members of Ten Obstructions came together in 2019 as the initial cohort of Castlefield Gallery Manchester’s  bOlder  programme. The bOlder programme was a talent development project for artists over fifty and was funded by the GMCA and delivered by Castlefield gallery. Ten Obstructions are a diverse creative group from around Greater Manchester with a kaleidoscope of practices, approaches and experience.

The bOlder programme aimed to provide opportunities for older creatives who lived or worked in some of the Greater Manchester authorities. Through the course of the project, initially in person and then online, we quickly found common ground between our practices and approaches and realised that the sum of our individual talents created an interesting and dynamic whole.

The group has continued to create and show work, run crits, meet and communicate regularly and support each other since the programme finished in September 2020.

The members of the group are: Maya Chowdhry, Jane Fairhurst, Sarah Feinmann, Tina Finch, Sabrina Fuller, Claire Hignett, Christopher Rainham, Ian Vines and Paddy O’Donnell.

Between us we work in 2D and 3D and with sound, video and interactive technologies.  View our current and past exhibitions

Gladly Beyond is concerned less explicitly with the exhibition’s immediate locale, taking its title from a love poem by ee cummings, yet a strong sense still emerges of each artist’s place in the world, their relationship with the places they work, live, visit and travel through, and their relationship with others.
